Jacob Peterson’s goal up for MLS Goal of the Week

In Sporting KC’s 3-0 win over the Seattle Sounders last Sunday, Jacob Peterson got on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion.

Today, Major League Soccer included it as part of its Goal of the Week brack, facing off with FC Dallas’ Victor Ulloa and his equalizing tally in a match against the Colorado Rapids.

The longtime Sporting KC winger launched a curling shot into the opposite side netting just before halftime on Sunday. The goal was important; it put Sporting comfortably into the locker room with a 2-0 lead. In the second half, Dom Dwyer added his second goal of the game, scoring his first with a header in the 21st minute.

Peterson’s goal proved to be a huge boost to Sporting, which came out of the halftime break to hold the Sounders to one shot throughout the whole game.

With the home win over the Sounders this weekend, Sporting moved into fourth in the Western Conference. Sporting will still have to make up for some bad stretches this season if it wants to be a serious playoff contender, but recent wins suggest this team can score. Sporting absolutely dominated the Sounders, but the Sounders lag in the Western Conference. Seattle remains ninth in the conference, only ahead of the Houston Dynamo.
