Royals Winning Streak

The Kansas City Royals had their longest winning streak in 20 years snapped by the Detroit Tigers. After taking the first three games of the series in Detroit, the KC Royals came up short against the Tigers in the final game of the series. The Royals winning streak took them to the top of the AL Central standings. Even with the loss that ended the streak, the Royals still retain the division lead over the tigers.

The Royals’ streak was the longest going in the Major Leagues and matched the third longest in franchise history. The 1977 club had a 16-game streak, and the pre-strike 1994 Royals won 14 straight. There were 10-game streaks also in ’77 and ’78.

The Royals hitting was the big difference that fueled the long winning streak. The Kansas City Royals pitching was excellent as well, but they have been excellent all year. The hitting has been hard to come by for the Royals so far this season. It’s easy to see how the good the Royals can be if they get some consistent hitting. Their pitching has been towards the top of the league for the past season and a half. Their below average hitting has been keeping them from being an elite team.
