Big 12 Tournament Around the Corner

The Big 12 Tournament is being held at the Sprint Center in Kansas City again. This year will mark the last Big 12 basketball tournament that will feature local school Missouri. Also Texas A&M will make their last appearance in the Big 12 Tournament. The Big 12 has agreed to finish the contract they have with the Sprint Center even though after this season the conference will not have a school in the state of Missouri where the venue is located. Kansas City has hosted several of the Big 12 Championship Tournaments for both the men and women. With the Sprint Center being located on the Missouri side, future tournaments there is not looking good since Missouri is leaving the conference.

The last Big 12 tournament featuring Missouri in it is looking like it might have them as a #1 seed. Mizzou and Kansas are tied on top of the conference and they are both far ahead of any other Big 12 school. The regular season conference title and #1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament are on the line when the two school meet this weekend for the final time at Allen Fieldhouse. If the Kansas Jayhawks find a way to beat the Missouri Tigers this weekend then the two teams would split the regular season games. Fans for both teams, even fans across the country, would be cheering for both teams to meet again in the Big 12 Title game to determine who will go out on top in this heated rivalry.

With both teams looking much better than any other team in the Big 12, they will be expected to meet again in the Big 12 Tournament final. With no plans of playing each other in the immediate future after Mizzou leaves the conference, that could be the last time the fans can see this heated rivalry. Fans for both sides feel pure hatred for each other. Missouri has never won a Big 12 Title and their fans would love nothing more than to leave the conference with the trophy as the best basketball team, especially since they will be taking it from Kansas. Kansas fans can’t imagine losing their 7 year conference title streak to Missouri of all people and then watch them walk away from the conference. KU students are already camping out for the big rivalry game this weekend and to make sure Missouri won’t win their final game in Allen Fieldhouse.
