Chase Daniel

With the Chiefs already clinching their number 5 seed in the NFL playoffs this year, staying healthy is going to be the goal for their final regular season game against the San Diego Chargers. What this means for former University of Missouri quarterback and Chiefs back up Chase Daniel is an opportunity to take some snaps in a regular season game. Daniel’s regular season experience is limited to just nine passes in his four seasons behind Drew Brees and eight passes this year behind Chiefs starter Alex Smith. If Chase were to see significant playing time this last regular season game of the 2013 season, it will be beneficial in case he is needed for any reason in the post season. This could potentially be the most action Daniel has seen in one game which is something that he is surely looking forward to.

As Chiefs starter Alex Smith knows what it is like to be in the backup role he understands that these snaps are very important for Chase Daniel. Smith knows that these opportunities do not come often and you never know when your next chance will be. For someone like Chase this would be the prime time to show the NFL that he can compete as he will be taking snaps against a Chargers team who are in need of a win if they want any shot at all of making the playoffs. Daniel does not get to practice with the Chiefs starters or even run their offensive plays in practice. He does however run the scout team offensive and act as if he were the opponents quarterback.

The former Missouri quarterbacks plan is to prepare for this game like he is the starter just like he does every other game he is getting ready for. Although the starting core may not be around him in this game, Chase Daniel has always been known for his smarts on the field which will hopefully allow for success in Sunday’s game.
