The Kansas Jayhawks have restructured their coach’s contract to go through the 2021-2022 season. Bill Self, who’s previous contract had him signed until June 2018, agreed to a restructured contract deal that will give him a raise to $3.857 million per year. Self’s previous deal had him making $3.376 million per year. Self is coming off his second appearance in the Final Four with the Kansas Jayhawks. He won the national championship in 2008 and made it to the title game in 2012 but lost to Kentucky. Kansas is guaranteeing Self $53.32 million — or $14,978 a day — if he remains coach through the 2021-22 season.

The Jayhawks have won a record eight consecutive Big 12 regular-season titles under Self, and averaged 29.9 wins per year. They have not been seeded lower than fourth in nine NCAA tournaments, and have made six trips to the round of 16 and five appearances in the Elite Eight. In his eight seasons at Kansas he has only lost a remarkable 7 games at Allen Fieldhouse and has an impressive 237-46 overall record. Self has also led the Jayhawks to 5 Big 12 Conference Tournament Championships and 6 Sweet Sixteen appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Last season was suppose to be a rebuilding year for KU but instead Bill Self took them to a National Title game. He also developed Thomas Robinson into a National Player of the Year Candidate. Robinson had tremendous growth under Bill Self’s guidance. After his freshman year nobody would have thought he could be national player of the year but just two years later he almost won it and did take home the Big 12 Player of the Year award. This season, after losing his Big 12 player of the year and his senior point guard, Bill Self will have another preseason top 10 team. He continues to bring in top recruits and gets production out of lesser recruits. Unless Bill has some big unforeseen issues, he will be coaching the Kansas Jayhawks well into the next decade.
