The St. Louis Blues will be sending ten players to the Sochi Winter Olympics this year tying the league high along with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. Blues defensemen Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund were selected to play for Sweden. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak will be playing for Slovakia and Vladimir Tarasenko will be competing with Russia. Blues forwards Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester will be playing for their home country Canada while David Backes, T.J. Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk will be representing team U.S.A. Last but not least, Vladimir Sabotka will be playing with the Czech Republic.
On top of the St. Louis Blues sending ten players to the Olympic games, head coach Ken Hitchcock and general manager Doug Armstrong will take a role on team Canada’s administrative staff. This is a special moment for these players as they will have the opportunity to represent their country through the sport they love. It may be hard for these guys to differentiate between Blues and Olympians when they compete against each other on the ice. Other than their respected countries, St. Louis fans will have a lot to cheer for this time around and wish their guys the best of luck.
The St. Louis Blues have been playing very well this season and the hard work is paying off. The Blues are currently in second place in their division behind the Blackhawks but rank fourth overall in points. St. Louis is in a great position to make the playoffs and potentially a skate towards the Stanley Cup.
