The 2014 Kansas City Chiefs had ZERO touchdowns from a wide receiver.  This stat is mind blowing in the modern National Football League where the rules make it incredibly difficult to defend against the pass.  If you follow the Chiefs then you know and realize there are many reasons for this glaring stat but at this point all you really care about is who the Chiefs can get to help this hopeless group of wide receivers.  Below are a couple of options the Chiefs can target through free agency.

Jeremy Maclin: The former Missouri Tiger is one of the top free agent wide receivers after a fantastic season with the Philadelphia Eagles.  In 2014, Maclin had 1,318 yards from 85 receptions and 10 touchdowns.  Despite missing 2013 with a torn ACL, the Eagles tried to lock up Maclin last offseason to a long term deal but the wideout decided to gamble on the 2014 season.  Surely the Eagles are going to try and bring back their top receiving option but if they don’t the Chiefs would be foolish to not make an offer.

Michael Crabtree: The immensely talented receiver had a 2014 season to forget.  Many experts feel his injuries have caught up with Crabtree and he no longer has the explosiveness or speed to get separation from defenders.  His 2014 season stats of 68 catches for 698 yards and 4 TD’s.  After such a poor season, he might be an affordable option and could reunite the receiver with Alex Smith.

Torrey Smith:  After an incredible 2013 season, where Smith had 65 catches for 1,128 yards.  Despite struggling to replicate his 2013 production, Smith did catch 11 touchdowns proving the deep threat he poses. The Chiefs desperately struggle at down field passing and Smith could help spread the defense to open up more space for Charles.  It would be a bit of a shock for Baltimore to not make an effort to sign Smith.  If they decide to not pursue the free agent wide receiver then the Chiefs should try to get clear downfield threat.

Randall Cobb:  A member of the most explosive passing game in the NFL, Cobb put up outstanding numbers in 2014.  The biggest problem for the Chiefs is that Cobb regularly lines up in the slot position.  If the Chiefs decide Cobb can be a number one receiver then they will certainly have to pay big bucks to bring the receiver who had 12 touchdowns in 2014.  His ability to make plays after the catch have to be attractive to the Chiefs, who rarely throws the ball more than 10 yards down.
