Royals, Sporting KC embrace Pokemon Go trend

Will the Pokemon Go craze last until Chiefs season?

The Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City have already started using the new iPhone game’s popularity to their advantage.

Fans can buy special tickets to the next Sporting KC, which takes place Sunday against the Seattle Sounders, that will allow them to enter the stadium early to hunt for Pokemon and battle with other fans, as reported by the Kansas City Star. With the special ticket, fans going to the game can battle at the gym in the Sprint Plaza outside of Children’s Mercy Park.

The match against the Sounders kicks off Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The gates to the the stadium open at noon, but the special ticket allows fans to enter at 11 a.m.

There are a total of eight PokeStops in Kauffman Stadium, as well as a gym. The PokeStops include different landmarks around the park like the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Statue in the outfield concourse. The gym at Kauffman Stadium is also in the outfield.

On Wednesday, the Royals asked fans on Twitter to enter to win prizes by sending in screenshots of their Pokemon Go adventures.The Royals take on the Cleveland Indians Wednesday night, the second game of the series after the Indians defeated the Royals 7-3 Tuesday.
