The Kansas Jayhawks Basketball team beat North Carolina in the Midwest Regional finals to advance to the Kansas’ 14th Final Four. Kansas and North Carolina were the top two seeds in the Midwest Region that was being played in St. Louis. Even though UNC was the top seed in the Region, the crowd was filled with mostly Kansas fans. The final score of the game was 80-67 but the game was much closer than that throughout the game. It was a game of mini runs, both teams taking their jabs at each other. Kansas would score 5 or 6 unanswered points to take the lead then North Carolina would come back and tie or take the lead themselves. UNC had pulled within one with 3 minutes to go in the game when Elijah Johnson hit a 3-pointer that started the final run of the game. The Jayhawks would ride the momentum of Johnson’s shot and their tough defense to finish the game on a 12-0 run.
The Kansas Jayhawks will now travel to New Orleans for the Final Four where they will face Ohio State for the second time this season. The Jayhawks took the first match up back in December at Allen Fieldhouse. Ohio State had to play that game without their 1st team All-American Jared Sullinger (back spasms). The All-American is averaging 18 points/game and shooting 40% for the NCAA Tournament. This game will be very different with it being at a neutral court and both squads at full strength. One thing is for sure though, the top dog in New Orleans is Kentucky right now. Their talent level and the way they are playing right now is far and away the best of any team in the country.
