Kansas University takes on Ohio State University this weekend in the historic Allen Fieldhouse in a battle of Big 10 vs Big 12. Ohio State is ranked #2 in the country right now and KU is not to far behind them at #13. Both teams have big guys that have earned all kinds of pre season awards. Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger is even some peoples pre season player of the year. KU’s Thomas Robinson has had a great start to the season averaging a double double. Robinson is coming off his best game against Long Beach State which he scored 26 points and grabbed 11 boards and even threw in a few assist to round out his game. Robinson showed a side of his game that people thought was his weakness as he hit 10-14 shots from the field, in which most of those were long jumpers. Most scouts show Robinson as a pure post player with great athleticism but struggled from outside the paint. Now Ohio State has another aspect of KU’s offense to prepare for.
Kansas has there own plans to prepare for Ohio State as they have Sullinger and Buford along with a great all around team coming into Allen Fieldhouse. Sullinger is also averaging a double double. KU’s biggest issue is going to be cutting down on their turnovers and staying out of foul trouble. KU has no depth this year and can’t afford to have their starters get into foul trouble, especially if they’re wanting to upset the #2 in the country. The Kansas team had a comfortable 20 point lead in their last game before turning the ball over 24 times and letting Long Beach State get it within 4 points at one point. In order for KU to keep up with Ohio State they will need much better guard play as Ohio State is a much better defensive team than Long Beach State. Also with only two legit big man, Robinson and Jeff Withey, they need to stay out of foul trouble against Sullinger in order to shut down OSU’s inside game.
Ohio State is the better team and has more depth but this game is being played in historic Allen Fieldhouse which can be the loudest and toughest place to play in no matter who you are. Ohio State players have never been there before and will probably have some adjustment time at the beginning of the game to get used to it. If they can’t get used to the noise and atmosphere and KU can feed off of their crowd then we could see an upset come Saturday.
