The Kansas City Royals had a terrible month of May and their hitting was to blame for it. The pitching staff for the Royals has been one of the best all year, while their hitting has been one of the worst. Once May was over the Royals hitting started to improve. One reason could be the firing of their hitting coach and hiring Hall of Famer George Brett. George Brett has done nothing but win at everything he does in his baseball career. He’s never been a hitting coach before but he is the best hitter the Kansas City Royals organization has ever had. Its always hard to tell how much a hitting coach effects players, especially during the season when they can’t change much with the players mechanics. But something is getting better with the Royals hitting since May. Their young stars, Hosmer and Moustakas, have been the biggest disappointments this year and they both are heating up in recent weeks.
If the Royals hitting can heat up and their pitching continues to pitch the way they have been, they could be a force to watch out for down the stretch. The Royals haven’t been to the playoffs since 1985 when George Brett lead them to the World Series. The Royals definitely have the pitching to get to the playoffs this season, it just depends on if the hitting can come around to match the pitching.
