Sporting KC played host to CD Guadalajara one of Mexico’s most storied clubs. The two teams battled to a 2-2 draw in the international friendly. One of Sporting KC’s new stars, Omar Bravo, played a total of 10 seasons with CD Guadalajara and is second on the clubs all time goal scoring list. Omar enjoyed seeing his old club and former teammates in this friendly. Omar probably felt like he was back playing in Mexico as the majority of the 17,000+ fans at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park were cheering for Guadalajara.
There was a great crowd that turned out for the friendly match, but as previously stated the majority were not cheering for Sporting KC. The Sporting players are not used to this as they have thrived playing at home this season after the new stadium was finished midway through the season. Every home game for Sporting they have enjoyed a near sell out crowd cheering for them, giving them a great home field advantage. Before LIVESTRONG Sporting Park was opened, Sporting KC was near the bottom of the standings as they struggled with several road games to start the season. Since the new stadium has opened, they club has climbed the standings and are now one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference.
There are only a couple games left in the regular MLS season and Sporting is only 2 points behind the first place Philadelphia Union in the Eastern Conference. On the other hand, they are only 2 points ahead of three other clubs that are chasing them for a playoff spot. Only the top three teams in each conference are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs so the last two games can change several things. Especially since one of the teams chasing Sporting is coming into town this weekend in a crucial game with huge playoff implications on it.
