Sporting KC up to 3rd in Western Conference

The last time Sporting KC played FC Dallas, they were completely dominated 3-1.  This time out, it wasn’t the case, as Graham Zusi and Krisztian Nemeth led their team to a crushing 4-0 win.

At 5-2-6 on the season, Sporting has unfortunately missed out on plenty of win opportunities, but on a positive note, they haven’t resulted in losses.

Former goalie Jimmy Nielsen pumped up the 60th consecutive sellout crowd prior to the start of the match, and it worked, as the building once again lived up to its reputation.

It’s a perfect time for Sporting to pick up its tempo on the pitch. Graham Zusi told Sports Radio 810 that his team is playing with, “all the confidence in the world.”

Even despite missing star Dom Dwyer with a neck injury, Sporting is looking like the team everyone expects to see.

NBC Sports released their recent power rankings, and Sporting has moved up to second behind Seattle. After the win over Dallas, MLS pundits selected three Sporting players—Zusi, Kevin Ellis, and Krisztian Nemeth—to its team of the week.

Zusi’s goal and two assists against Dallas vaulted him to just the third player in Sporting history to have recored 25 goals and 50 assists.

The win also served as the 100th for head coach Peter Vermes across all competitions.

If the high of beating FC Dallas wasn’t enough, Sporting comes back with a huge home match against the league leading Seattle Sounders in what will be yet another packed house.

First kick is set for 7 pm and with a win, Sporting will make serious headway in its playoff push this season.
