The Kansas City Wizards have gone through a total makeover since last season. The team started by developing a brand new soccer specific stadium that is going to be located in Kansas City, Kansas right next to the Legends shopping center and Kansas Speedway. Once the stadium is completed it will be one of the best, if not THE best, soccer specific stadiums in North America. Once the stadium was designed and underway the team then changed their name to Sporting KC. They have a totally new look and are going to be playing in a phenomenal stadium. It is going to be a special season for Kansas City’s soccer team no matter how the season itself goes.

So far the team is off to a rough start at 1-1-6 with the only win coming on their debut game of the season. The worst one of them all was the tie against Vancouver Whitecaps. Sporting had a 3-0 lead until the 73rd minute and they still had a two goal lead going into stoppage time before the defense completely fell apart and gave up two goals very late. After the Whitecaps tied the game they even had a chance to win it with a few close shots in the last minute. Sporting has not been the same since that game losing 5 games in a row in league play.

The good news for Sporting KC is that they have not played a home game yet. Construction of the stadium wasn’t going to be finished by the start of the season so the league scheduled their first 10 games on the road. They’ve also played the fewest amount of games in the league because of that. June 9th will be the grand opening for Livestrong Sporting Park and almost a new beginning for the Sporting KC team. It’s tough to win on the road and it’s even tougher to be on the road for the first two months of your season. The team still has high expectations for the year and with a huge percentage of their games being played at home they have a real chance of making a run for the playoffs.
