Mizzou Finishes #5

The University of Missouri football team finished their season ranked at #5 in the BCS poll, a huge improvement from their 5-7 record the previous year. It was the Tigers second season in the SEC and they put together a tough squad that ended up winning the East division. Missouri was led by senior quarterback James Franklin with the help of other standouts such as Henry Josey, Dorial Green-Beckham and Michael Sam. Mizzou finished 12-2 this year with the teams that beat them having a record of 23-4. One of those losses coming in overtime to a strong South Carolina team and the other from Auburn who played in the BCS National Championship Game. Although Franklin and Josey will be leaving the team next season, the Tigers have great depth at the running back position and a QB in Matty Mauk who impressed MU fans this season when Franklin got injured.

What this season led to for Missouri was a spot in the Cotton Bowl and a chance to play an old Big 12 opponent Oklahoma State. Although Franklin played far under his ability in the bowl game, he still managed to lead the Tigers to a 41-31 victory. Michael Sam played a huge roll forcing a fumble at the end of the game allowing for Shane Ray to pick it up for a 73 yard touchdown to put the game away. The SEC has beaten the Big 12 ten times out of their last eleven Cotton Bowls with Missouri getting that one win against Arkansas while they were still in the Big 12. Gary Pinkel is looking to build on this years season and continue to compete at a top level. The Missouri Tigers have a lot to look forward to and are going to make a big impact on the Southeastern Conference.
