Cubs Back In KC

The Chicago Cubs come back to Kansas City to the play the Royals for the first time in over a decade. The last time the Cubs faced the Royals in Kansas City was in July of 2000. The Cubs took two out of three in that series so the Royals are looking to do better than that this time around. Especially when the KC Royals are struggling of late and they have one of the worst teams in the majors coming to town, this is one of those weekends you can right your ship and get back on track.

The bad news for the Royals is that they have had good series to get back on track this whole month and have been unable to take advantage so far. To start the month the Royals hosted the Minnesota Twins who had lost 10 of their previous 12 games before coming to Kansas City. The Twins, with one of the worst records in the majors at the time, swept the Royals in a four game series. Later in the month the Royals traveled to St. Louis to play a team that had lost 6 straight games. The Cardinals were happy to see the Royals as they took two of the three games in that series to get back on track. Now the Royals just finished getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks who had lost two consecutive series. So even though the Cubs limp into Kansas City with the second fewest wins in the majors, that doesn’t mean the Royals are going to have their way in a series they desperately need to win.

The Royals really need to get back to at least winning at home. They haven’t been good on the road all year but at least earlier in the season when the Royals were at Kauffman it usually meant good results for the club. As of recently, though, the club has struggled on the road and in Kansas City. Even though the Royals never truly expected to win the division this season, with the youngest team in the majors, they at least expected to see improvements from last season with some of their top prospects playing significant time in the big leagues. Luckily for the team, not only are they playing a team that has one of the worst records but a team that is worst in the league in pitching. If the Royals can get their offense going  this weekend, that can spark a young team and could help them recover to have a successful season.
