Royals Have Winning Home Stand

The first home stand did not go the way Kansas City Royals fans were hoping for. The Royals came into this year with higher expectations than normal with several high prospects starting with the big league. Before the Royals even got to the the plate in their first home game in 2012, they were already down 7 runs to the Cleveland Indians. That opening home stand didn’t get any better as they went on to go 0-10. The Royals had a much more difficult home stand the second time around as they faced the NY Yankees in a 4 game series followed by the Boston Red Sox for 3 games. Even with the more difficult schedule on the second home stand the Royals actually came away with a winning home stand. They split with the Yankees (2-2) and beat the Red Sox 2 out of 3. The Red Sox are struggling early on this season but are still considered a top team in the AL. With the horrific first home stand they Royals had, they have a big hole to climb out of early on this season.

Good news for Kansas City fans is that the AL Central division is not the strongest. With the poor start to the season the Royals only find themselves 6.5 games behind the division leading Cleveland Indians. The Royals have been good on the road so far this season (7-6) which has kept them in reach of the division leaders. Since that poor home stand the Royals have gone 8-6 and the team is looking much better. If the starting pitching can get a little better the KC Royals could really make a run at this division. So far this season the Royals have had the worst starting pitching and that has contributed to their slow start to the 2012 season that had high expectations. The hitting has been good so far and that’s without Eric Hosmer hitting well and Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez on the DL. Once those guys all come back and if the starting pitching can even be decent for the rest of the season, the Royals will have a very talented young team doing well.
